2023 Farm Bill Priorities

The Farm Bill is uniquely suited to address issues that threaten health care’s mission of healing:

  • Social and economic inequality threatens health care’s ability to provide adequate care for all
  • Climate change and corporate consolidation decrease the resilience of the U.S. food supply chain, causing market volatility and jeopardizing hospital food service’s ability to adequately care for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Underinvestment in nutrition-focused preventative care, including “food is medicine,” challenges health care to offer health-promoting foods and support behavior change across the population, which has potential to decrease health care spending on preventable chronic conditions.

Health Care Without Harm has developed its 2023 Farm Bill priorities to address these three areas of concern, and joins with its partner organizations and coalitions to advocate for a just and transformative Farm Bill.
