New California culinary center serves Kaiser Permanente, reaches for food justice goals

Food Management dug into the story and aspirations behind the new culinary center serving institutions in the Bay Area and the Anchors in Resilient Communities model for healthier, more resilient, and more equitable communities. Our partners at Emerald Cities captured the perspective of a small farm serving the center and its impact on farmworkers and the community in a short video.

UC Davis, Health Care Without Harm receive USDA grant to elevate specialty crops

Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other specialty crops grown by small and mid-sized local farms are getting a boost thanks to a USDA grant. Researchers from UC Davis along with several partners, including Health Care Without Harm, will use the funds to discover pathways and infrastructure solutions to increase demand and prioritization of local crops over imported food. They hope to meet the nutritional needs of institutions while supporting farmers and strengthening the local economy.
